
Dr. Walid Al Khatib
Researcher / Director of Public Opinion Polls and Surveys Department
Dr. Walid Al-Khatib is a researcher at the Center for Strategic Studies in Jordan, where he currently serves as the head of the Department of Surveys and Polls. He holds a Ph.D. in Political and Social Statistics and a Master's degree in Statistics, both from the University of Kent in England. Additionally, Dr. Al-Khatib is a part-time lecturer at the University of Jordan, Philadelphia University, and the Jordan Media Institute.
His primary research interests encompass elections and electoral systems, the democratic process in the Middle East, political reform in the Arab world, refugee studies, and public perceptions of contemporary issues, including democracy, political participation, entrepreneurship, and gender equality. During his doctoral studies, he taught statistics to psychology and sociology students, covering topics such as linear regression analysis and data analysis using tools like Minitab, SPSS, and R.
Furthermore, Dr. Al-Khatib has taught research methodologies and advanced statistical analysis at various universities and institutes. He is currently involved in several significant projects, including studying smoking prevalence among adults in Jordan, assessing the prevalence of non-communicable diseases, exploring equality of opportunity among youth, and evaluating social protection programs and the social safety net in Jordan. He is also engaged with the Arab Barometer - Round Nine.
Dr. Al-Khatib has participated in numerous international and local conferences and workshops, and he has authored and co-authored several reports and books in the fields of social, human, political, and health sciences. Notable publications include "The Educational Challenge: Identifying Barriers and Seizing Opportunities in Higher Education for Syrian Refugees in Jordan - Policy Recommendations and Future Strategies" (2018, Co-Author), the "Jordan Entrepreneurship Report 2023/2024" (GEM, 2023), the "Jordan Gender Barometer," and serving as Project Manager for the "STEPWISE APPROACH TO NONCOMMUNICABLE DISEASE RISK FACTOR SURVEILLANCE (STEPS) IN JORDAN" for the World Health Organization (2019, 2024-2025).
His areas of expertise include design and sampling, data analysis, and report writing.
