The importance of this study lies in its uniqueness as the first of its kind, executed on a comprehensive and representative sample of all schools in the kingdom, focusing on physical education. The study includes various categories of schools—public and private, co-educational and single-sex—across different age groups.

The study is based on the fundamental premise of evaluating the extent of student engagement and interaction during physical education classes and assessing the school’s ability, along with the entire administrative and teaching staff, to provide the necessary facilities for these classes. This includes green spaces, playgrounds, and sports halls. This is particularly relevant given the prevailing perception that physical education is less important compared to other subjects, which may be associated with inconsistent planning and selective decision-making.

Therefore, this study aims to provide a comprehensive picture of what is available in schools, the teachers, and the implementation of activities, through intensive interviews with a large number of teachers and school principals. The study was conducted on a sample of 1,880 schools, with interviews conducted with 1,880 physical education teachers and school principals. Thus, the final sample size was 1,880 teachers and 1,880 school principals.
