Within the framework of the work of the Israeli Studies Unit at the Center for Strategic Studies at the University of Jordan, which was established with the aim of conducting research and scientific studies related to the Israeli political decision-making mechanism, and other important issues that define Israeli society, the Center invited Dr. Azmi Bishara to give a lecture entitled: “The Israeli elections And the advantages of the next stage” on 20/7/1996.

Dr. Bishara appreciate Arab specialists to deal with Israeli policy, he was born in Nazareth in 1956, and holds a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Humboldt in Berlin, and worked as a researcher at the Department of German history at the University of Tel Aviv and a member of the team ‘s research library Wiener  “Wiener”  about secularism since From 1986 to 1987, he worked from 1989 to 1990 as Professor of Philosophy at Birzeit University, and Head of the Department of Cultural Studies there. He was elected to the Israeli Knesset in May 1996.

Dr. Bishara touched, in an objective manner, and a sober extrapolation, to the current Israeli government’s view of the peace process, and made it clear that this government has no conception about what peace with the Arabs is, or any indication of its orientation to peace with Syria or the Palestinians, and that there is difficulty in continuing with this process. At the same level that I started with since the Madrid Conference onwards.

We at the Center decided to document this lecture and the discussions that followed, in which a group of academic colleagues, politicians and the press in Jordan participated, to make it accessible to the reader, researcher, and those interested in these issues.
