Amman, May 31, 2025 – The Center for Strategic Studies at the University of Jordan, in collaboration with Sophia University in Tokyo, organized the first virtual dialogue session between researchers from the center, along with several graduate students from Prince Al Hussein Bin Abdullah II School of Political Science and International Studies , and their counterparts from Sophia University in Japan. The session focused on exploring avenues for cooperation to promote peace and security in the Middle East, with particular attention to the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and the West Bank.
The session was moderated by Professor Daisaku Higashi, an international relations expert and professor at Sophia University, specializing in mediation and peacebuilding. Participants exchanged perspectives and analysis on: The humanitarian impact of the conflict in Gaza, Political and humanitarian roles that Jordan and Japan can play and the role of youth in promoting peace and academic cooperation
This meeting comes as part of the growing cooperation between the University of Jordan and Sophia University, with an official Memorandum of Understanding expected to be signed soon between the two institutions. It also serves as a prelude to a public lecture scheduled for June 4, 2025, featuring Professor Higashi and Professor Hasan Al-Momani.
This dialogue reflects the Center for Strategic Studies’ commitment to fostering international dialogue and empowering young generations to contribute to peacebuilding and regional security.
