Prof. Dr. Shteiwi holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Cincinnati / Ohio / United States in 1991. He is a Sociologist with 17 years of experience in teaching at the University of Jordan where he used to teach in the Gender Studies and the Human Rights and Development programs, in addition, to the Sociology Department.

His experience includes advisory and consultancies with government, UN, and other international organizations and research institutions. In his sabbatical year (2006-07), he worked as a Regional Advisor on Social Policies and Social Issues for UNESCWA. In this capacity; he provided technical support on social policies for Egypt, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Jordan. 

His Particular skills lie in conceptualizing, conducting, and leading policy research projects and public opinion polls. He has played a key role as a team leader on many National and regional projects the last of which was Social violence in Jordan: Causes and Solutions.

He has more than 35 papers and published books in the field of development, social policies, poverty, unemployment, women, social classes, civil society and political parties. He received the state encouragement award for his research in the field of Women in 2001.
